Kenny McLean is pledging to prove his worth for club and country following an injury-hit start to his Norwich City career.

McLean took to social media over the international break to confirm he had undergone surgery on the ankle ligament damage originally suffered in August's League Cup win over Stevenage.

The 26-year-old Scottish international looked set to play a key role under Daniel Farke this season, but has been restricted to three appearances.

McLean, speaking prior to his operation, is convinced he can be a huge success south of the border after impressing at Aberdeen.

'I am sure in due course I will prove I can be a good player for Norwich,' he said.

'Sometimes that league (Scottish Premiership) does get put down but there are plenty of players and managers who have come down and done Norwich a good service.

'The profile has gone up, with people like Steven Gerrard going up there and Brendan Rodgers. The standard is good and I feel there are a lot of boys who could come down here to England and handle that.

'I am one, but it will take time.'

McLean's injury frustrations also curtailed his bid to be part of Scotland's Uefa Nations League bid. City club mate Steven Naismith has been one of the beneficiaries, with his prolific goalscoring form on loan at Hearts earning him a recall to the squad.

'When we are away with the national team and someone gets a place because I am not there and they take their chance that is not down to me. I need to get fit soon as possible,' said McLean.

'Representing your country is a massive honour. I love doing it. I will do it as long as I can. Not playing down here probably affected Naisy, in terms of him being in the squad, but he is a massive player and a massive character to have around.

'It was excellent to get him back in good form because he has started unbelievably well up at Hearts and it was no surprise to me to see him back doing what he does best for Scotland.'
