Norwich City midfielder Louis Thompson has sealed a a loan move to Russell Martin’s MK Dons until the end of the season, with development prospect Louis Lomas heading to Tampa Bay.

Thompson cut short an intended season long loan spell at Shrewsbury after making just one league start but is back in League One as he bids to get regular football working under his former Norwich City team mate Martin.

The 25-year-old has had a catalogue of injuries which have limited his chances of establishing himself at Carrow Road since arriving from Swindon Town in September 2014.

Thompson made only six appearances in the Canaries' Championship title-winning season and joins fellow City loanee Carlton Morris at the League One outfit.

"I'm delighted," he said, speaking to MK Dons' official site. "The team are playing a great brand of football and I wanted to get down here and be a part of that. Hopefully I can take to it like a duck to water and me and the team can kick on.

"I always knew Russ would go into coaching - it's a natural progression for him. He's a born leader and he was always very vocal and expressive as my captain and he always had a knack for saying the right things.

"I'm a combative player who likes to get forward as well as read the game well defensively. I want to chip in at both ends of the pitch - hopefully I can do that and help the team pick up the points needed to climb the table."

Martin believes the all-action midfielder will be a major asset.

"I know Louis has the right character and quality to really strengthen us both on and off the pitch - he is exactly the type of player that we want at the club," he said.

"He is another player who has shown real desire to come to MK Dons despite interest from other clubs, some in the Championship. A big thank you must also go to Neal Adams, Stuart Webber and Norwich City in allowing both Louis and Carlton Morris to come here.

"If we manage Louis correctly and keep him fit then we have a top player on our hands - a player who earned a move to the Premier League from this level. I'm excited to have him on board."

Meanwhile, centre back Lomas, who recently signed a new longer term deal with the club until 2021, will link up with the Rowdies for the upcoming USL season.

"When I first found out about the loan, I was nervous, just because it was so unexpected. As I started to think more about it, I became more and more excited about the opportunity," said Lomas, speaking to the Canaries' official site.

"This loan is something that can really help, playing in a first team with a completely different atmosphere, in a completely different country is something that I think can get me to the next step in my career."

"I found out about the loan quite recently, it was all a bit fast but it's great to know."

"With a new team in a new league comes new challenges. Lomas says this is something is ready for; confident he is prepared to adapt and develop a new style of play.

"I've heard they play a completely different formation, have completely different tactics and just in general the league play football differently, so I'll have to adapt.

"As a player, being able to play under different circumstances in general will help me as I develop in all different areas of the game, so I'm really excited to start."
