Daniel Farke is urging Norwich City's fringe players to stake a claim to move out of the shadows.

The Canaries' head coach delivered a gloomy fitness bulletin on Monday, with a fresh wave of injury and illness hitting his squad ahead of Tuesday's Championship trip to Barnsley (KO 7:45pm).

Moritz Leitner (hamstring) and Nelson Oliveira (calf) are the latest casualties, while Harrison Reed and Christoph Zimmermann are still struggling with a sickness bug. Alex Tettey (knee) is another frontline option set for a rest at Oakwell, but Farke insists he has the resources to cope.

Mario Vrancic looks set for a start against the Tykes, although Tottenham loanee Marcus Edwards is still yet to convince the German he is ready.

'We spoke many times about no gifts and the players who come in must deserve a chance,' said Farke.

'It is not about testing for the new season but when there are many important players who are not available then of course those who have not been involved in recent weeks will get some chances.

'They are training hard, they are pretty motivated.

'Marcus improves a lot but he is still not there, in terms of his attitude without the ball. After letting in four goals at Hull it wouldn't be the best sign to bring him immediately to the pitch.

'I was not happy with us defensively (at Hull) and we have to show a reaction in this game.

'It is not the right time to bring in a player who needs to grow up with his attitude without the ball.

'If we had won the last three or four games then it helps to introduce a player like Marcus with his technical ability.

'We have to see what happens with Christoph and Alex and Harrison.

'To be honest I have not yet decided. It is always good to have options.'
