Marcel Franke is not prepared to give up on his Norwich City career.

The German defender fell out of favour with Daniel Farke, after just five Championship games, before sealing a January loan move to hometown club Dynamo Dresden in Bundesliga Two.

Franke, however, is desperate to force his way back into Farke's longer term plans when he returns to England in the summer. The 24-year-old insists he does not regret his big money move from Greuther Furth.

'I wanted to take the next step,' he said, speaking to the Nürnberger Nachrichten newspaper. 'The first five games went well, then we conceded four against Millwall. 'I did not have my best day either. The coach was very concerned about me, changed the staff and we did not lose the next ten games. Timm Klose came back in and I was either on the bench or in the stands.

'It's a big change playing in England, even for a central defender.

'There are hardly any fouls and many duels.

'We wanted to play football with Norwich, but in the end there were a lot of long balls. Of course, I imagined things would go differently.

'Now I'll finish the season in Dresden and then we'll see what the Norwich coach plans for me. I still want to prevail there and this is a chance to get myself to the best level.'

Franke has made a positive impact at Dresden, playing a key role in two clean sheets in his last four outings, to help ease any lingering relegation fears.

The central defender revealed he has a special bond with Dynamo through his father, who is a season ticket holder.

'When I played in Halle, Fürth and Norwich in recent years, he still had his season ticket with Dynamo and has gone to the games regularly,' he said.

'He is definitely happy that I am back and playing for the club.

'It was very important for me to play again right away. I had an initial conversation with Ralf Minge (Dresden sporting director) in October.

'Union Berlin also made a request, but for me there was only one direction.

'I was away from Dresden for a few years. My family is happy that I'm back.

'Norwich is a beautiful city. It is not far to the sea, London and Cambridge are within easy reach and Marco Stiepermann and Tom Trybull are two former players from Fürth, but Dresden is my hometown.'
