Daniel Farke is sad to see Yanic Wildschut leave but admitted after Norwich City's 1-1 German tour finale against VfL Wolfsburg it does open up a spot to attract a 'quality' signing.

Wildschut sealed a season long loan move to Championship rivals Bolton on the eve of the friendly draw in Barsinghausen.

Farke, speaking at the club's training base on this trip, had made it clear he expected a final flourish to the summer transfer window.

The City chief reiterated after watching his side hold the Bundesliga outfit on Thursday evening they are ready to pounce if the right player becomes available.

'It was always in our head a bit to send him out on loan again after the Cardiff spell. It didn't work out for him there,' said Farke. 'We got the feeling we have brought in many offensive players and we want the group a bit smaller.

'We thought there wouldn't be that many chances for Yanic to be involved. I am a little sad because he is one of the nicest guys I have worked with.

'He is always in a good mood and to be honest he offers something with his pace and he can create situations with his crazy dribbling. We wish him all the best and hope he has a successful team at Bolton.

'Of course it opens up a space in the squad and we have spoken about how we are not 100pc done. We are looking for perhaps one or two additions.

'But I stress it wasn't a case we had to send Yanic out on loan to do something.

'We feel the squad needs to be a little bit smaller and this is part of that.

'In general, much of our business is done, we don't need to force anything but if there is quality out there then we are in a position to maybe bring people in.'

Farke refused to dwell on the late concession from a set piece after Onel Hernadez had put his side in front.

'A brilliant result for us against a German giant,' he said. 'We were there with a really good performance in the first half.

'We wanted to press high and use counter attacks and our idea worked. We had periods when we were able to create situations. We deserved to be in the lead at half-time. Wolfsburg brought in a new team then but we wanted to give our lads more minutes.

'They were a bit tired and the pressure increased but we had a chance to earn a determining goal with Tom Trybull, who was close to a penalty. They scored from a set piece but I felt there was a foul in the build up.

'I can only praise the lads for this performance.'
