Onel Hernandez is back in training for Norwich City - but a midweek Championship trip to Derby County will come too soon for the key wide player.

Hernandez has been out since the 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in mid-September after a hernia operation but is back in training ahead of schedule.

Daniel Farke also delivered positive news on the progress of captain Grant Hanley (quad), who has not featured since the derby draw at Ipswich.

'This week, he had his last injection. We will re-scan him on Thursday to have a last check and then if everything is okay, we will start the last step of his rehab,' said Farke.

'He could return to team training during the international break. Two weeks until team training would be nice. That is the hope and the plan.

'He had some structural damage in his quadricep. I believe it is called 're-gloving' where the muscle fibres have a tendency to lose connection so the injections have sorted them out.

'Onel trained for the first time with us today (on Tuesday). It's too early to have him for Derby but he could be an option with Stoke on Saturday.'

Marco Stiepermann (virus), Louis Thompson (hamstring) and Todd Cantwell (eye) are all being monitored ahead of the game at Frank Lampard's Derby.

'We've had some problems with illness. Marco felt sick on the pitch on Saturday, he was exhausted afterwards and we were a bit concerned but he seems to be okay now. He is not a doubt,' said Farke.

'Louis Thompson felt his hamstring again but all is sorted. Quite normal to have a few hits. He will travel with us to Derby. Todd Cantwell had a swollen eye after getting a hit from an elbow on Saturday but he's okay. Just a bit of a headache after the game.'

Farke will make a late call on Ben Marshall who made his return for the development squad last week from a virus. The news is less positive on Kenny McLean, who damaged ankle ligaments in the League Cup win over Stevenage earlier this season.

'There has been no progress with Kenny,' said the City chief. 'Our doctors and medical department are working hard but he's still feeling pain in some movements. That is a bit annoying. We are still concerned with him.

'We will make a late decision on Ben (for Derby). He is available but at this moment there is not so many reasons to change the squad. We are being successful, despite having some important players injured.'

Carlton Morris and Matt Jarvis remain longer term absentees.
