Christoph Zimmermann will do whatever it takes to get Norwich City the right result - after a fearless point blank headed block helped earn the Canaries' a battling midweek point at Wolves.

Zimmermann's first goal in professional football was over-shadowed by his desperate attempt to foil Morgan Gibbs-White inside his own penalty box, during Wednesday's 2-2 draw.

The German centre back contorted his body on the ground to get a flick on the ball which distracted the Wolves' youngster enough for his team mates to come to his rescue.

'I had this in my mind for quite a few months that I wanted to try it,' he joked.

'That is why I made a mistake in the build up. Obviously that is not true. I misjudged the initial pass. The striker was able to go to the goal. But I was happy he didn't shoot straight away.

'He moved onto his left, I was on the ground trying to block the shot, but then he made another turn and the ball just went close to my face.

'I was thinking the quickest way for me to get something on the ball in that position was with my head.

'I couldn't get there with any other part of my body. It just came to my mind that lying on the ground I must head it. I made a slight touch and that allowed Angus Gunn to come out.

'I was just fortunate nothing happened because it was my mistake in the first place. If I wasn't willing to put my body on the line I would have no chance to play here for this club.

'That is the strength I bring.

'I am probably not the most technical player with the most talent but if I can help the team I will do. It is what I can contribute to the team.'

Zimmermann admitted his first goal and the nature of City's stirring fightback was special.

'Sometimes when you are 2-0 down after 25 minutes you just hope you don't collapse and lose 5-0,' he said.

'That can happen with the potential and quality Wolves have. It was good we fought back and scored so late with the last kick. We can be really happy with that outcome.

'It definitely adds to the team spirit when you do what we have in the last two days. Emotionally you have to be happy but there is nothing like a win. We have played well for three draws in the last three games.

'I am happy to finally score my first goal, not just for Norwich but in professional football.

'To be fair, offensive headers are not my biggest strength.

'It was the same in Germany. The delivery was great and to be honest I just had to make the run and flick it on. I didn't even have to jump. I was in the right place and the delivery was quality.

'More importantly it was vital to get back in the game so quickly. Otherwise it might have been a lot different.'
