Daniel Farke admits for Norwich City to be leading the Championship with a whole team out injured is ‘surreal’.

The Canaries were missing 12 senior players - including the suspended Emi Buendia - for Saturday's 1-1 draw against Coventry City, and Max Aarons was added to the casualty list when he departed with a shin injury.

Aarons continues to be assessed but City’s medical staff are working overtime to ease the backlog ahead of a midweek league trip to Luton Town.

Farke named only six substitutes against the Sky Blues, with five of those never playing a minute of league football, but the Canaries extended their unbeaten run to 10 games.

Mario Vrancic’s first-half penalty was cancelled out by Max Biamou’s 89th-minute equaliser.

"To be 10 unbeaten, in a top class position in the table with these injuries, feels a bit surreal,” he said. “When you work in this business you deal with injuries.

"Each and every team will have a tricky situation every season. It was defenders for us last season but the volume of injuries now is unbelievable.

"I am annoyed how this game ended but how we dealt with the situation is the way forward. Let’s not feel too sorry for ourselves.

"Keep going with this spirit and hopefully sooner rather than later we get some lads back, and have some luck with Max. We need our proper Championship experienced players back to be really competitive."

Buendia will return from suspension for the trip to Luton and Farke is hoping for good news with Aarons and Lukas Rupp (hamstring), who also missed out at the weekend when he was poised to feature.

“With Lukas, his left hamstring looked to be alright but after the warm up on Friday he felt something in the right hamstring. Maybe he has over-compensated a bit," said Farke.

"Not a major thing but he was uncomfortable and not able to sprint. If I am honest he was really in my thoughts and had a good chance to start.

"Our game management was quite good. But our hands were a bit tied in terms of the substitutions with so many injured players. The only thing I was disappointed with was our set up for the equaliser. Our positioning was not perfect. We should not have allowed the cross in.

"We had just switched to a three man formation because they had put on a second striker but we didn’t drop quickly enough to use our man advantage in this scene. They were inches ahead of my defenders in each situation.

"Then because Max is lying on the side of the pitch the assistant said there could be no offside. What we showed in spirit, togetherness and a will to fight was good.”
