Daniel Farke can see the finish line. But Blackburn will be just as stubborn as Wigan, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke in throwing up another roadblock or two as Norwich City aim to seal Championship promotion.
The Canaries have been held to four consecutive league draws as they edge ever closer to sealing a remarkable place in the Premier League.
Farke has primed his squad to expect more of the same, against a confident Blackburn team who arrive at Carrow Road looking to spoil the party.
“When I spoke to Steve Bruce after the last home game he said that was definitely their best performance since he was in charge. The same with Wigan,” said Farke. “It is quite normal when you are the league leader the opponent is highly motivated.
“There’ll be pretty brave.
“They have four wins in a row and will come here with nothing to lose. It is a big stage for them in a spotlight game, away to the league leaders.
“We have had some really difficult games.
“Stoke defended in the five man formation and three central defenders, but even then we scored two good goals. In this period, it was important not to get carried away in either direction.
“I was not too disappointed to take a point at Stoke and I was not opening champagne bottles on the bus when I heard Brentford had won (against Leeds). I was calmed down. When you know you are six points clear with a good goal difference then we are in a good position.”
City would already be up if they had held on at Stoke, and Farke knows there is likely to be more twists and turns ahead.
“I would prefer to have it at Carrow Road, but if we have to win at Aston Villa I would take that. You can’t always chose,” he said. “I would have taken it if we had been promoted on the bus or the plane after Stoke.
“I don’t look into the stars or thinking it is a special date or how is the moon. We just concentrate on our topics. If we do then we have a good chance for a result.
“It is how you handle this situation. We say it often we don’t lose the ground under our feet. If the young lads were doing that then the experienced boys will step in. That is how we have had this consistency in our results.
“When you are under pressure, we can deliver. Leaders are important this weekend. We won’t have to motivate them, maybe calm them down a bit.”
