Norwich City will bounce back under Daniel Farke, insists Brighton rival Graham Potter after sealing a Premier League double that pushed the Canaries ever closer to the Championship.

Farke himself labelled it a ‘last chance’ in the fight to stay in the top flight, but relegation now looks inevitable over the coming days after a fourth straight league defeat since the restart.

“They have had some injuries at key moments which have probably just destabilised them. But I can see the quality and I have a lot of respect for them,” said Potter, who saw Farke’s work at close quarters last season in charge of Swansea. “I know how good they were in the Championship.

“When you do the analysis you see their matches and they are well in a lot of the games at this level. Even in this game they had periods when they put us under pressure.

“Daniel is a really, really good coach, a top coach. He will stick with what he does but I am sure he will also learn and improve. Just like we are all trying to do and I am sure they will come back stronger for this experience.”

Potter’s side moved onto 36 points with a win at Carrow Road, but there is still work ahead to secure their own top flight status.

“To have 36 points is a decent number, but we need more,” he said. “This season has been a bit of a unique one so what has happened in the past, in terms of points needed to stay up, I don’t think you can take too much from that.

“It changes the narrative completely if we don’t get the three points, then the story is that the best two teams (Liverpool and Manchester City) are coming and we’re under pressure.

“The resilience impressed me the most. The ability to stick at it, to fight for each other. I think that has been evident for us since the lockdown especially.

“The most important thing is the three points. Sometimes you can over analyse performances, but for this stage of the season, where we are at, the three points is the most important thing.

“It was a tough game as we expected and a bit scrappy at times, but a moment of quality won the match.”
