Daniel Farke hailed his bright young things after Norwich City hit back to earn a first Championship away win of the season on Wednesday in a 2-1 victory at Reading.

Dereham-bred Todd Cantwell marked his league debut in fine style with a clever assist for the in-form Teemu Pukki to open the scoring prior to the interval.

Mario Vrancic sealed the win in the second half, but it was the Canaries' new wave who earned a special mention from Farke.

'You know I don't like to praise the young players too much but Todd worked a lot for the team,' said Farke.

'He had a brilliant and crucial assist for the first goal. When I thought about who replaces Onel Hernandez, who was on fire for us, and we already have so many young players you wake up and think, 'It could be perhaps even too brave for me,' but I was totally convinced he was prepared.

'He has improved so much in the last weeks, each and every day in training.

'We speak so much with him in order to develop him so that he can be a proper Championship player and hopefully one day even a bit better.

'I got this feeling he was ready to deliver and he didn't prove me wrong.

'Even if we hadn't got a winner I am always convinced of the character of my side. Look at my team here. On the left, Jamal Lewis, aged 20, Todd the same. On the right, Max Arrons, 18, Emi Buendia is 21, so our average in wide areas was under 20.

'You know sometimes when you play with such a young side there can be naïve mistakes and it is not so easy in a difficult period to stand there against an experienced Championship side but I totally trust my players.

'To show this reaction after the equaliser, I couldn't be more proud.'

Farke was delighted to back up the home victory over Middlesbrough.

'Always a good feeling to add another win to our record, especially after beating Middlesbrough,' he said,

'We have so many important players out and to go to Reading, who won for the first time at Preston, you know they are highly motivated.

'We had to be rebellious and we also put in such a good performance, particularly in the first half.'
