Last season's 2-1 defeat at Burton Albion ensures that midfielder Alex Tettey will be fired up for today's return to the Pirelli Stadium.

The former Norway international played a pivotal role during City's 2-0 victory at Birmingham on Boxing Day, after almost three months out with a calf injury.

Now he intends to kick on and try to make up for last season's defeat during the latter stages of Alex Neil's reign.

'We went there last season and we lost 2-1, I remember it well,' the Canaries grafter said. 'Everyone will be expecting us to go there and for it to be an easy game but personally I think it will be harder than Birmingham.

'So we need to be fully prepared and do everything we can to get three points.'

Having watched City's worrying downturn in form, winning just one of 10 games, Tettey has seen where things have been going wrong for his team-mates.

The 31-year-old – whose contract is due to expire in June – feels better things lie in wait under Daniel Farke during 2018 though.

'Some games we played well but we didn't get the results that we needed,' the former Rennes and Rosenborg man said. 'If I'm talking about the midfield, they played well, against Leeds for example, but we didn't get the result.

'People do not look at the performance, they see that we lost 1-0, but there were some good performances in there.'

He continued: 'I think at the moment we just need to take it game by game. Can we win these two coming games? Can we get six points and make it nine points out of three games? That would be good.

'Then we can start to talk about something but I think it is just game by game.'

With a home match against Millwall to follow on Monday, Tettey's fitness is set for a thorough test.

'If I play at Burton, hopefully we win and the manager wants me to play again on Monday,' the long-serving City star added. 'Then I will have to channel all the energy I have in my body to play again on Monday.

'I'm not worried about injury but when there are games in a short period, I need to be recovered, that's what it's always been about for me. If I'm not at my best then why be out there?'
