Ipswich Town's wait to get one over their Norfolk rivals still stretches back to 2009, although Murphy's slack marking had allowed Jonas Knudsen to put the Suffolk visitors ahead early in the second half.

Fortunately the winger made amends just minutes later, notching his first East Anglian derby goal for his boyhood club.

'It was amazing to score in the derby,' beamed Murphy. 'It was a proud moment for myself having played in a lot of mini-derbies growing up through the ranks.

'I played in the derby at Portman Road (in August) but this was a lot different because obviously it's pretty quiet there, but our fans made a lot of noise here and it was a privilege to be able to be out on that pitch. There was a good energy from the crowd.

'I know what these derbies are all about and the atmosphere was crazy. I really enjoyed being out there from the early moments and hearing the crowd before kick-off, it was a great atmosphere and I thoroughly enjoyed playing.

'It as good to see Josh come on as well. We live for the moments we' play together and I thought he did really well when he came on.

'Their keeper made some good saves but I knew his near post was his weakness, watching clips from previous goals. Nathan (Redmond) scored a similar one against him two seasons ago at his near post. So I knew that area was vulnerable and that's why I hit it there.

'I had a lot of tweets and social media saying grab a goal for your birthday, so it was a nice way to celebrate. I love scoring for this club – but I had to repay for maybe being at fault for the first goal.

'It's massively annoying and I felt I had to repay the team and the fans for an error. We've got to take responsibility personally for errors that happen and I'm man enough to take that responsibility.

'But I'm happy I repaid the team with a goal. You've got to get on with the job in hand and I knew there was going to be goals in the game. I was disappointed about their first goal, but it is what it is.

'It was a relief I found the net but I'm disappointed we only got the draw. We dominated and to drop two points is quite annoying, but we've now got a massive game at Sheffield Wednesday to close the gap, so we'll look forward to that.'
