Friday will be the 25th anniversary of Norwich City's famous 2-1 defeat of Bayern Munich – and memories of that great night have been flooding back throughout 2018.

The Canaries organised a legends game against Inter Milan Forever in May, which raised funds for the Community Sports Foundation. You can watch highlights of the game above.

Just short of 18,000 packed into Carrow Road to see the likes of Bryan Gunn, Rob Newman, Mark Bowen and Darren Eadie re-live the Uefa Cup run of 1993 in aid of the charity's Build The Nest campaign.

Mike Walker returned as manager as Inter legends including Jurgen Klinsmann, Javier Zanetti and Giuseppe Baresi won 2-1 thanks to goals from Marco Materazzi and a John Polston own goal, before Paul McVeigh pulled back a deserved goal for the hosts.

The money raised went towards CSF's new hub, The Nest, on the former Anglian Windows site near Norwich Airport – with phase one of the site officially opened by current Canaries midfielder Louis Thompson and TV presenter Jake Humphrey last month.

It was all organised to mark 25 years of City's first ever European adventure, having finished third in the Premiership the previous season.

Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem were beaten 3-0 at Carrow Road in the first round before a 0-0 draw sealed progress in the second leg.

That teed up the big one, against Bayern Munich, when goals from Jeremy Goss and Mark Bowen earned a 2-1 victory – becoming the first English team to ever beat the German giants at the Olympic Stadium.

No English team had ever beaten Bayern on their own soil before, with Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham, Leeds and Coventry all trying and failing before Norwich.

That record remained through until Munich leaving their traditional home for the modern Allianz Arena in 2005, which was built for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Arsenal all had attempts at replicating the Canaries' success before the stadium switch but failed.

Arsenal and Manchester City managed to do so in the Champions League in 2013 and 2014 respectively but that night and that Goss volley forever have their place in the history books, with a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road in the second leg making sure of the triumph.

The Uefa Cup run came to an end in the next round due to 1-0 defeats home and away to Inter Milan, thanks to goals from Dennis Bergkamp, and Norwich have never managed to make a return to European competition.

So as the 25th anniversary of that run approaches, that one and only European adventure remains close to the hearts of all Canaries fans.

The Canaries produced a commemorative video for the 20th anniversary five years ago, featuring highlights and John Motson's famous commentary, which can be viewed below.
