Robert Snodgrass knows from experience it takes times to adapt to the Premier League – but he has no doubts Luciano Becchio will prove a valuable addition soon enough.
The pair, team-mates at Leeds United, started together as Norwich City players for the first time in Saturday's goalless draw with Fulham.
Becchio played 86 minutes before making way for Kei Kamara, but had a rather thankless task as a lone striker on his full home debut.
However, having successfully made the adjustment from Championship to Premier League over the summer himself, Snodgrass believes it won't be long before Becchio is showing the City faithful the best he has to offer.
'I've just spoken to Luciano in there and he said it was tough,' said Snodgrass. 'It was his first time playing in the Premier League and in that tempo.
'You need to get up to the speed of things and he has not really played many games in the last few weeks as such, so I think you will see the best of him in the next three or four weeks, once he gets up to the speed of the way we are training and different things.
'I've seen him score a hat-trick out of absolutely nothing against Middlesbrough, so I know what he can do. You've just got to get the ball in the right areas for him to score.'
The strike options available to Chris Hughton enjoyed something of a winter make-over, with Steve Morison departing for Leeds and Harry Kane returning to Tottenham – while Becchio's arrival was accompanied by on-loan Kei Kamara, who also racked up a home debut with his late cameo against the Cottagers.
And Snodgrass expects City's new options to make a difference.
'Becchio has come here with a great goal ratio and the big boy Kamara has come on and shown us what he can do in a little spell when he came on for his little cameo, so I think the manager is making the signings and he has been in the game a long time, so he knows what signings to make and I believe if we start taking our chances we will be fine,' he said.
'I've not seen enough of Kei as I've been away on international duty and have not really seen that much of him, but it is probably one of those ones where I think as the course of time goes on he will get more chances here.
'He made an impact, he is big and he looks strong, he will attack things and I think that's what we need.'
The question now is whether Hughton opts to play two strikers – as he suggested he would have done on Saturday before Grant Holt's untimely back injury – or pick and choose who to play off Wes Hoolahan.
'It's up to the manager to decide how but I know both Luciano and Grant are out and out goalscorers, so it only bodes well for Norwich City,' Snodgrass added.
'I think in the first two minutes of the game on Saturday where I whipped one right across the face of goal, you would think with two strikers in there you have got a better chance of scoring.
'The manager picks the team and as a midfielder, you need to do is shift and that will continue throughout the season.'
