Norwich City Under-23s completed their Premier League Two season with an excellent 1-0 win at Aston Villa - but it was not enough to force a way into the end of season play-offs.

The young Canaries needed to win their final game, while hoping other results went their way, to extend their season and keeping their part of the bargain was not enough.

Matt Gill's side were quickly into their stride and took a deserved lead on 21 minutes. Simon Power made what proved to be the only goal of the evening when he raced down the right before finding Alfie Payne whose shot took a deflection to wrong-foot keeper Matija Sarkic.

Savvas Mourgos struck the woodwork when well placed just before the break while Devonte Aransiba's low drive just before the hour mark grazed the post. Villa also had their chances, but the visitors deserved the win.

City: Oxborough, Aarons, Odusina, Wallis, Aransibia, Power, Payne, Phillips, Mourgos, Fonkeu, Abrahams. Subs: Hallett, Idah, Milovanovic, Scully, Thomas.
