Former Norwich City defender Jens Berthel Askou has admitted he possesses a “little dream” to become Norwich City boss in the future.
The Dane is currently manager of HB Torshavn in the Faroe Islands, and dreams one day of occupying the home dug-out at Carrow Road as Canaries boss.
Askou played 30 times for City across a two-year spell where Paul Lambert lifted City from the third tier of English football to the top-flight with back-to-back promotions.
The defender was a pivotal part of Lambert’s squad in the League One season, and says he enjoyed the best time of his professional career with the Canaries.
Ever since he departed in 2011, Askou has admitted his dream is to one day return to City.
“It’s been a dream since I was there and since I left Norwich in 2011,” Askou admits.
“Norwich has a special place, not just for me, but also for my family. Maybe we can come back later. It’s one of the few places where we’ve really felt like it’s home.
“I have a little secret dream of coming back to Norwich sometime, when I’m good enough and I’ve learned what I need to learn to coach at that level. I would love that.
“But, until then, perhaps somewhere else in England. I just love the passion of football in England, not just the players or clubs but the environment and the fans. You don’t get that in many places. It’s something special.”
Askou recalls his City days with warmth despite not establishing himself as a first-team regular following their promotion to the Championship.
Despite that, Askou is keen to ensure his City memorabilia ends up in ‘the right office’ one day.
“It was a special time. Some of the best and strongest memories, not just for me but for my family, from my time in professional football was definitely at Norwich City.
“I have so many positive memories. I still have my shirt in my boy’s room, I have a little coaster that my wife bought for me when I left Norwich City and it says ‘manager’ with a Norwich logo.
“I have it with me in my office, that’s quite fun. Hopefully one day I will have it in the right office!”
