Ibrahim Amadou is set to cut his loan spell with Norwich City short in order to join Serie A side Genoa, according to reports in Italy.

The French midfielder joined the Canaries on a season-long loan deal from Sevilla in August but has struggled to nail down a starting berth in Daniel Farke's squad.

Amadou has featured predominantly as a central defender for City in the Premier League this season and his parent club Sevilla are said to be unhappy with his lack of game time in Norfolk.

He has featured only 11 times for the Canaries this season and hasn't completed an entire 90 minutes since City's 2-2 draw with Arsenal back in December.

In a recent press conference, Farke listed Amadou as a potential central defensive option rather than a defensive midfielder, with the Frenchman not doing enough to convince City's head coach he is the best option in that position.

Alex Tettey's form has been one contributing factor, with the Norwegian enjoying an impressive spell in City's midfield at present.

Timm Klose's imminent return to team training leaves City well-stocked defensively and could reduce Amadou's minutes even more.

Reports in Italy suggest Amadou's agents have been speaking with Genoa, who find themselves 19th in Serie A. They are keen on bringing Amadou to Italy to help with their survival bid.

His lack of minutes at Carrow Road means Sevilla are keen to ensure he gains valuable minutes for the remainder of the season.

The French youth international was ruled out of City's FA Cup fourth round victory over Burnley this weekend with a knee injury.

Another factor to consider is the fact that he is currently occupying one of City's non-homegrown registration slots and with the club still in talks over the permanent signing of attacker Danel Sinani, that could be seen as a way of freeing up a space in their squad.

City are able to register 17 non-homegrown players, with the club currently utilising all of their available slots.

City do have the option to sign Amadou at the end of the season, but that will depend on whether the Canaries survive in the top-flight and choose to exercise the clause.
