Norwich City boss Alex Neil will have the final say on the Canaries' January transfer window strategy.

The new City manager insisted he had no immediate plans to raid his former club, Hamilton, when he was officially unveiled on Friday, but the 33-year-old has already been touted with Academical's highly-rated French midfielder Tony Andreu.

The Scot faces some big calls on who stays and who goes to propel City firmly back into the Championship promotion race, but chief executive David McNally has reiterated Norwich's football executive board will back Neil to the hilt.

'The key thing is no-one will join or go as a player without the football manager having his name all over that,' he said. 'In terms of the strategy Alex may have a different view on where he wants to strengthen and of course in January you are looking to bring in players to have an impact on the first XI, not just the squad, so obviously Alex may have a different view to the one previously held.

'That is the only change I foresee. Any players joining will be ultimately his decision.

'The football manager is the most important person when it comes to football matters here. Alex will be the person who decides which players come into the club and his opinion matters most.

'Alex will decide on who, if any, he wants to leave the football club and we are there to support him. In that respect it is no different to how we have operated for many years.'

The likes of Luciano Becchio and Elliott Bennett continue to be linked with potential January exits, and former City boss Chris Hughton has not ruled a Brighton return for Bennett, who spent two months on loan at the Seagulls.

'Benno is certainly somebody in the work that we are doing and the possibilities, because he was here before,' said Hughton. 'He'd be one of a few names we'd be looking at but I could mention numerous names and choices.'
