Alex Neil has confirmed Norwich City would be interested in Jordan Rhodes if the Middlesbrough striker is not part of Aitor Karanka's Premier League plans.
The Canaries have been heavily touted with a transfer swoop for the prolific striker in recent days, and Neil revealed after Tuesday's 6-1 EFL Cup win over Coventry City he is an admirer.
Neil has made no secret of his desire to bolster Norwich's frontline, ahead of next week's deadline, after missing out on Steven Fletcher and Ross McCormack earlier this summer.
'Listen if anyone becomes available who can score goals we are going to be touted with them,' he said, with the Scot dismissing rumours another potential forward target, Dame N'Doye was at Carrow Road to watch the midweek cup romp over the Sky Blues. 'His record in the Championship, in terms of scoring goals, is excellent so if he was available then we would be interested of course but that is as far as it goes at the moment.'
Rhodes has also been touted with City's Championship rivals Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday but is in line to feature for Boro in Wednesday's EFL Cup tie at Fulham. Karanka reiterated in the build-up he has no plans to offload the Scottish international, who moved to the north-east in January for a reported £9m after plundering 83 league goals in 159 appearances for Blackburn Rovers and prior to that notched 73 league goals in 124 outings for Huddersfield.
'Jordan is a good kid and I've told him the same as I said on Sunday - I trust him 100pc the same as when he arrived,' said the Spaniard. 'Now he understands with Negredo, Stuani, Nugent - it's more competition but that's good for the team. For him, to train in the way he's training is good as he'll have his chance. He's fighting since we started pre-season and when Negredo arrived. I feel he's ready and one day his chance will come.'
