Alan Pardew is the front runner to replace Alex Neil at Norwich City.

The former Newcastle United and West Ham boss is heavily touted with the Carrow Road vacancy following Neil’s shock dismissal on Friday night.

Pardew’s vast experience and his record of guiding both Reading and West Ham United to promotion from the Football League are believed to mark him out as a strong candidate for the Norwich board, according to a number of national media outlets.

Both Roy Hodgson and Mark Warburton have been linked, with Gary Rowett a potentially popular choice with many Norwich fans.

Skysports reported on Friday night Pardew and Rowett have already indicated they are interested and City’s top brass favour a swift appointment after a wretched season.

Neil was dismissed following a lengthy board meeting on Friday afternoon, just hours after he had made it clear at his pre-match press call, ahead of Saturday’s Championship test against Blackburn, he felt he was the man to plot a major summer rebuilding job.

A planned announcement early next week on the ‘new structure’ is expected to confirm the role and duties of chief executive will be split up, although at this stage it is unclear whether City aim to bring in a permanent replacement for Jez Moxey to assist current interim CEO Steve Stone.

Alan Irvine will be in charge of the team for Saturday’s game against his former club and Irvine is scheduled to address the media after the game.
