Norwich and District Sunday League roundup: AFC Wanderers dent Grove title hopes

Goals by Luke Tuttle, Scott Sell, Matty Elwin and Craig Vincent ensured the run in to the Premier League title will be very interesting indeed as second placed AFC Wanderers beat long time leaders The Grove 4-0.

Marlborough, who have games in hand, drew 2-2 at home to Acle Rangers, but Dog House slipped to a 4-1 defeat at Hellesdon Athletic. Reepham Town won 3-0 at Unicorns, whilst Aylsham Sunday and Norwich Busmen took a point apiece in a 1-1 draw.

With Fiveways inactive, Dussindale Rovers became the new leaders of 1A, after a 4-0 home win over Horsford SC. Vale Longo scored five (Jason Drake 3, Kevin Brown, Justin Womack) without reply at Aslacton, whilst two goals for Jon Soderberg and a penalty save from debut keeper Chris Gray, helped Eaton FC to a 2-0 win at North Walsham. Windmill Wanderers won 4-1 at Castlegate and Norman Wanderers kept their recent good form going when they won by the odd goal in seven at The Otter.

In 1B, none of the top three won. Leaders Sprowston Rovers were given a wakeup call as St Faiths came from behind to beat them 5-4. Ryan Oakley (2), Ryan McFadden, Craig Arnold and Jordan King all scored for the home side. Second placed Bayer FC could only close the gap at the top by a point as they only managed a 3-3 draw at basement side Spixworth Sunday, and Prince of Denmark drew 0-0 at home to Haig FC. Despite goals by Marcus Gee and Connor Delaney, Earlham United lost 4-2 at home to Rose Tavern, for whom Michael Robinson grabbed a hat trick and Will Abbs the other, and after taking the lead, Sprowston Wanderers were pegged back by a Richard Taylor equaliser for Norfolk CCSC in a 1-1 draw.

In 2A, a Shaun Plant goal and a double for Marc Howard, making it ten in four games, saw The Stores beat Stoke FC 3-2, Justin Cameron with a brace for the visitors. DCS Rapid were 4-1 (Nick Weavers 2, John Davis 2) winners over The Griffen, whilst Ryan Flint scored for Acle Wanderers as they produced a good all round display to draw 1-1 at Sprowston Sunday. Chris Collins and Amos Bailey both grabbed a pair to leave Green Man in good spirits after a 4-2 win at Deopham. Jonathan Oakley and Olly Ramsbottom replied for the home side.

There are new leaders in 2B, with the prolific Jordan Rocastle scoring seven times for PL Rangers as they took over at the top. Lewis Widdows also scored as they beat Hillside OB 8-4. Heartsease FC beat previous leaders Moles Rest 2-1 thanks to goals by Graham Carr on his debut and Ben Lewis, and there were two more goals for Clive Riches and others from Scott Laxton and Matt Thurlow as Maid Marian beat Sporting Farmhouse 4-1. Acle Rangers Reserves were 5-3 winners at home to Poringland Reserves, Shaun Vincent, Ryan Pettit and Simon Curtis scoring for the visitors.

There was a second defeat on the trot for 3A leaders New Buckenham as they went down 3-0 at home to Mad Moose. Hellesdon Athletic Reserves had a good 2-1 win at Sporting Longdale, whilst Constable Crusaders stopped Dancing Farmers from making it three wins in a row by beating them 2-1. Newsman Celtic scored seven without reply against a luckless reindeer and Normans A were 3-1 winners over River Garden whose goal came from 16-year-old Josh Newton.

The big game in 3B saw leaders One Love United win 6-3 at Salhouse Rovers. Neil Woolner (2), and Jamie Weavers scored for the home side in a game well handled by referee Glen Sandell. Briston Wanderers' 3-0 win at AFC Oak saw them move into second spot and Bell Inn remain fourth after a 4-2 victory at Taverham United. Unicorns Reserves won 2-1 at Freethorpe, whilst there was a 3-1 home win for Sloughbottom Revolution over The Gordon whose goal came from George Mace.

After suffering their first defeat of the season last week, Bungay Town were out to make amends and third placed Temples Property were the team to suffer as they were thumped 8-2. Despite only drawing 2-2 (Daniel Manganaro, Ed Butterworth) with lowly Sporting Longdale Reserves, Brooke FC moved back up to second spot. Phoenix Felthorpe were narrow 3-2 winners at Whiterose United, whilst there was a great win for Earlham Colney as they came from behind to beat Temple Bar 6-3. Shannon Cressey was on fire for Colney scoring five times, whilst Tom Rudd scored the other. The game between Eaton Young Boys and Manor Park had to be abandoned due to injury. Manor Park and the league send their best wishes to the player.

The big game in 4B and probably the game of the day saw Schoolhouse FC move level on points with leaders William Wanderers by beating them 4-0 (Brendan Burke 2, Richard Brett, Ian Garrod). Despite the defeat, the home side were full of praise for their opponents and described it as a great game which is nice to see. Drayton slipped up again as they lost 7-2 at Dilham. Daniel Duffield (3), Lewis Gelanis (2), and Paul Grothier also with two scored for the home side, whilst James Tubb and Billy Draper replied for the visitors who feel three late goals flattered the scoreline in a game played in good spirit. Ryan Blyth, Henry Lee Warder and John Carver were on target as Salhouse Reserves won 3-2 at Chapelfield Rovers and Windmill Elite were 2-1 winners at home to Costessey Sports. Hethersett Reserves pulled further away from the foot of the table after a 3-2 home win against Spixworth Reserves.
