Norwich 31, Lowestoft & Yarmouth 14

Norwich continued their preparations for their first league game on September 15 with a home win over Lowestoft and Yarmouth.

Having played Peterborough, who are two leagues higher, last week and lost 17-0 – which would have been a lot more but for a massive defensive effort – Norwich were up against a side who play one league higher.

The game was played in four 20 minutes sessions to enable changes to be made at the end of each session. Because of Norwich's shortage of front row players three of the sessions were played with uncontested scrums.

At the end of the first session the score was level at 7-7, both sides scoring good tries. After the second session the visitors led 12-14 but Norwich took the lead in the third session, which they did not relinquish, with a well taken try by winger Martin Culham converted by Rob Micklethwaite.

In the final session Norwich added two more tries from Jordy Walker and 17-year-old scrum-half James Brown, a fine individual effort. Walker's try was converted by Micklethwaite for Norwich to run out as comfortable winners
