The prevailing wind on Oulton Broad used to be westerly, which gives the best sailing, but recently it seems to always have a bit of north in it which can make the beats a bit one-sided. This is how it was on Sunday, the last day of the winter series.
The first Fast Handicap race followed the recent pattern with Duncan Madin in his RS300 holding the RS400s which are much faster given the right conditions and then at the end David Frary pops up from mid fleet to win on handicap in his Finn. And so it was again with Lloyd Crisp, the leading Laser, moving up to third place.
The Squibs had another good race and David Gooch and Gilly Foulds maintained their recent good form. Bryan and Jenny Riley for once made a bad start, leaving Jim Tubby and David Gale and Owen Delany to fight for first place. They swapped places several times but on the second round David Gooch took over the lead and steadily opened up a useful gap which he held to the end.
The second Fast Handicap race was much the same as the first with Duncan Madin hanging onto Richard Smith and winning on handicap as David Frary got left behind as the wind dropped and failed to make the first three, Richard Fryer taking third place.

The Laser fleet had shrunk in size from the previous week. Lloyd Crisp led the fleet, followed by Simon Marfleet and Andy Bedwell who had a close race for second.
Bryan Riley was on form in the second Squib race as he pulled out a good lead from David Gooch who took second from Owen Delany.
