Chasing Rainbows

North Walsham Raiders had to overcome atrocious conditions and a committed Norwich Lions side to seal a hard-fought 24-12 win in the semi-finals of the Norfolk Bowl.

Having gone 12 points down in the first half the home side twice narrowed the gap before a late surge took the Raiders to the win.

Playing with the strong wind in the first half North Walsham’s second string took the lead with tries from flanker Dan Foster and outside half Harry Downing and a conversion by Michael Mulhall. After the break Norwich kicked well and Charlie Jefferies scored in the corner.

The Raiders struck back with a second try for Downing, again converted by Mulhall.

The Lions deservedly brought the gap down to seven points however when Matt O’Brien went in between the posts and Tristan Smith converted. Walsham’s forwards took control of the latter stages and from a lineout young flanker George Masdin ran in to seal the win.
