The annual North Walsham Rugby Sevens tournament will be taking place at the end of May at North Walsham's Norwich Road, Scottow ground with Norwich-based Dardan Security, announced as the tournament sponsors.

The Dardan Security Rugby Sevens at North Walsham RFC takes place on Sunday, May 29, the late May Bank Holiday Sunday, and continues its growth from previous years.

This year, for the first time, 20 men's teams are expected, with the ladies competition planned to attract eight teams.

There will also be a touch rugby competition with a record number of local teams participating, volleyball, food and the now famous beer festival, which will feature at least 20 ales, all from Norfolk breweries, as well as local ciders.

According to one of the event organisers, Dan Goodrich, the form book shows that it could be a hard fought battle for honours.

'This year.s Dardan Security Rugby Sevens is looking like it will be the best ever, with several teams already signed up to come, many of whom have competed before as well as some exciting new names: and they're coming from all over the country,' he said.

'We're expecting a hard fought competition in both men's and ladies' competitions, so it will be a great day of rugby and we are delighted to welcome Dardan Security as sponsors.'

Phil Anthony of Dardan Security added: 'We are very pleased to be sponsoring the Dardan Rugby Sevens at North Walsham.

'It's a fantastic celebration of rugby in Norfolk that is attracting sevens teams from far and wide as well as from our local clubs.

'Having enjoyed a great day there last year, we felt we wanted to get involved and support the tournament this year.

'We're sure it's going to be a very enjoyable and fun, family day and are very pleased to put our name to it.'

The tournament starts at 11am and runs until around 6pm. Each seven-a-side game lasts seven minutes each way, with the final 10 minutes each way.

Games are played concurrently on three pitches, providing spectators with plenty to see.

Dan Goodrich added: 'Rugby sevens is all about fun and it will be a brilliant day both for players and spectators.

'Last year, we arranged an almost pitch-long 'boat race' at the end of the day and we'll be repeating it this year and hope to attract even more participants.

'We very much hope that everyone will stay right up to the end to find out about it, watch or even join in!'
