Making the breakthrough at Leicester Tigers has earned Norfolk youngster Harry Simmons the Aviva Premiership club’s Players’ Young Player of the Year award.

The 20-year-old back has made 11 first-team appearances for Tigers this season and impressed his team-mates enough to win pick up the trophy at the club’s annual awards evening on Tuesday evening.

The former Holt junior and Gresham’s School pupil, who grew up in Lenwade and represented England at under-18 level, beat England international prop Ellis Genge and lock Harry Wells to the award.

Simmons, who made his European Champions Cup debut in a 39-0 pool loss at Castres in January and scored his first senior tries in a 50-28 Anglo-Welsh Cup defeat at Wasps in February, said: “I’ve had my first taste of first-team rugby and I’m very grateful to the boys that voted for me, I’m absolutely thrilled to win this award.”
