The Norfolk Women’s and Girls’ Football League Division One title race has been thrown wide open after leaders Bungay Town Ladies were held to a 2-2 draw at Thorpe United Ladies.
Bungay took the lead at Thorpe thanks to Nicky Hazell’s controlled finish but Rebekah Lake took advantage of some confusion in the visitors’ defence to equalise. Bungay got their noses back in front thanks to a fine individual strike from Selina Rowland but Shanice Sutton struck late on to ensure a share of the spoils.
With Bungay dropping points it allowed Sprowston Ladies to close the gap at the top to three points thanks to their 3-2 win at Gorleston Ladies.
Victoria Leyer was Sprowston’s matchwinner as her hat-trick ensured that her side stayed firmly in the title race.
Stalham Town Ladies bagged their third win of the season thanks to a 1-0 success at Fakenham.
In Division Two FC Sprowston made it a perfect 10 as they hammered Bure Valley Wildcats 7-1 at home. Charlie Head helped herself to a double whilst Melissa Belsey, Tammy Graves, Rebecca Kirby and Nicole Read were also on the scoresheet.
Beccles Town are Sprowston’s closest challengers as they kept the gap at the top to six points, with a game in hand, after their 5-1 win against Freethorpe Ladies. Lucy Robbens was amongst the goals with four whilst Emily Coe was also on target. Rebecca White grabbed the consolation for Freethorpe.
Gorleston Rangers Ladies got their second win of the season as they beat Toftwood United Ladies at home.
Costessey Sports Ladies won the top-of-the-table clash at home against Briston Wanderers Ladies to put them firmly in the driving seat for the seven-a-side league title.
Kayleigh Elwood got the all important goal for Costessey, who claimed their eighth consecutive win of the season, to go two points clear of Briston, who have played three games more. Costessey will be hoping to consolidate their position at the top this weekend when they entertain Hellesdon Belles Ladies.
Scole United Ladies claimed their fourth win of the season as they beat Red Rose Ladies 3-1 at home.
