More than 2,000 hopeful young athletes from every corner of England will gather at the Norfolk Showground tomorrow for the English Schools Cross Country Championships.

The first championship event, for under 17 girls, will start at 12.30pm – and it is here that local supporters will be hoping to witness a Norfolk success with members of the successful City of Norwich team that won at the club national championships at Nottingham recently taking part.

The Norfolk under 17 team of Nelly Porter, Kate Willis and Meredith Winship will be flying the flag for the county against 44 other counties. The under 17 boys team with Jack White and Will Mahoney will be looking to make their mark too. The top eight runners in the under 17 age group will also go on to represent England in the schools international match later in the season. The final event will be the senior boys' championships at 3.30pm.
