Talented youngster Amelia Williamson will begin her quest for another English National Schools’ title next week.

The 17-year-old Norwich High School for Girls pupil is the lowest handicap player in a field of 45 for the Norfolk Championships at Royal Norwich next Thursday.

Amelia, who plays off plus three, needs to get through county and regional competitions before getting a chance to defend the national title she won at The Kendleshire Club near Bristol last year.

The Royal Cromer player will tee off in the company of two of the favourites for the county boys’ title, Warren Bates (College of West Anglia) and Liam Cossey (Easton College). Play starts at 9am.

Before that the first men’s county event of the season takes place at Sheringham at the weekend. The Handicap Foursomes Championships for the Carrick and Thompson Bowls has attracted a bumper field, with a two tee start getting under way at 7.20am tomorrow. The competition reaches its climax on Sunday.
