It was a grey start for the first set of races at Snowflakes Sailing Club, but it looked like there was more wind than forecast.

The Yeoman started first, at 11am, with six in the fleet, and five minutes later five lasers started their race.

The wind kept changing during the race with it dropping off at the clubhouse for the finish, as well as up river during the race. The Yeoman split into three groups, with the lead boats more than four minutes ahead at the end.

John Parker (Cherokee Yeoman 12) was first, Ian Hanson (Kittiwake, Yeoman 103) second and Paul Barker (Brandy Bottle, Yeoman 91) third.

The Lasers also split up – the lead boat, by two minutes was Richard Whitefoot (Laser 119290, Booty) with Matthew Thwaites (Laser 137349, Tigger) second and Edward Wildman (Laser 179851) in third place.

The second race was much shorter due to the first having been over an hour for some. The start was slightly damp with the rain that started at the end of the first race, but it did clear up.

The same six Yeoman started with spinnakers raised immediately after the start and not being pulled down until just around the corner. The Yeoman split into groups again but they were much closer together at the end than in the last race.

First, this time, was Paul Barker, second was John Parker and, two minutes later, was Ian Hanson. The Lasers were joined by a Topper for their second race. This fleet were again split up. The dinghies were unfortunately hampered by various holiday cruisers in the middle of the river – the Topper was halted by one as she finished. By the end of the three laps Edward Wildman was first, then, less than a minute later, were Matthew Thwaites in second place and Richard Whitefoot third.
