Norfolk Bowling Club's astonishing attack on English Indoor national honours continued at the weekend.

Rebecca Field and Louise Catchpole, who last week helped Ian Catchpole and Wayne Wilgress to win the EIBA national mixed fours in Northampton, this time reached the ladies fours with teenagers Rebecca Carter and Harriett Segasby.

Having beaten off all opposition in the mixed competition with a team in which all four players were in their early twenties, this was an even younger line-up.

Field (23), Catchpole (22), Segasby (18) and Carter (17) between them totalled only 80 years – which was not far short of the age of some of their individual opponents on their way to the final.

Though they ultimately lost 25-16 in the final to Boston's Sue Simpson-Shaw, Gill Grant, Chelsea Tomlin and Di Wilson the run continued another extraordinary streak of success for this group of young players.

And the final was an especially poignant affair for recently crowned ladies world matchplay champion Field as Wilson was her mentor when she first started to show promise as an 11-year-old at Boston IBC.

Along the way, Norfolk made swift work of Ipswich (25-8 with three ends to spare) before edging past York, 14-13 in the quarter-finals.

The semi-finals was a big test as they came up against a City of Ely team skipped by Commonwealth Games gold medal winner and former world indoor singles champion Ellen Falkner. But Norfolk's current world champ got the better of Cambridgeshire's past Potters indoor queen as Field skipped her quartet through by 19-16.

Field, who reached the quarter-finals of the mixed pairs with Wayne Willgress, rejoined Carter and Catchpole to try for further glory in the ladies triples.

But after comprehensive wins over Cumbria (22-6) and Hounslow (29-4) they lost yesterday in the quarter-finals, 15-10 to Swale.

On Thursday Field and Catchpole are playing the last 16 of the ladies pairs.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the age range, Norfolk's Brian Hallcroft and Charlie Boon are in action at Melton Mowbray tomorrow in the Over-60s pairs.
