The first of the Wroxham 5k series was held at Broadland High School.
It’s a race with a long history and a course which has great potential for a PB with its mostly flat course profile.
Runners lined up just before 7.15pm along Tunstead road although there was a slight delay due to traffic entering the authorised road closure section, but once cleared the race was underway with a strong, competitive field.
Being a 5k event the finish was tight amongst the front runners, with Callum Stanforth, of Ryston Runners, taking the overall victory with a brilliant time of 15:58. Runner-up was Gary Crush, of City of Norwich AC, with Robert Chenery coming home third for Ipswich Jaffa RC.
In the ladies event, the honours went to Abigail Durand, from North Norfolk Harriers, in the 16 and under category, in a time of 17:20. Ladies runner-up was Mabel Beckett, from City of Norwich AC, and third was Jo Andrews, from Bungay Black Dog RC.
Team results were: men’s senior, City Of Norwich AC (Jack Adcock, Will Browne, Jamie Stares), men’s vets, Norfolk Gazelles (Alan Hume, John Moore, James Fowler), ladies senior, City Of Norwich AC (Mabel Beckett, Leanne Finch, Holly Bunn) and ladies vets, Bure Valley Harriers (Sabina Spence, Karyn Bray, Sarah Jay).
In total there were 554 finishers.
The Norwich Road Runners social committee kept spectators and runners well ‘refreshed’ after the race with their popular charity cake sale stand. All donations raised went to the charity the PSPA.
The second race in the series is on June 13.
