Rugby clubs across the region have bowed to the inevitable and called off their weekend fixtures over 48 hours before they were due to be played.

With pitches covered in snow and no immediate prospect of a rise in temperatures a number of matches have already been re-arranged for Saturday, March 17, which is a free date.

North Walsham were one of the first clubs to act, calling off their home match against league leaders Brentwood early on Thursday.

London One North colleagues Diss were also put in the picture quickly, with scheduled hosts Saffron Walden making an early call to say their match was postponed.

It was a similar story in London Two North East, where Norwich were due to have entertained Wanstead, while the London Three Eastern Counties fixture between Holt and Wymondham was another early casualty.

All the other fixtures involving teams in London Three Eastern Counties and the Eastern Counties Leagues are expected to follow suit, with March 17 likely to be the new date.

Meanwhile plans are under way for the back to Wymondham day on Saturday, April 7, the final chance to watch a match at Tuttles Lane before the club moves to a new ground.

Anyone who has played for the club in past is invited to come along, together with members of all ages. The scheduled game against Lowestoft and Yarmouth won't be going ahead as a league fixture after the strugglers decided to accept early relegation, but matches will be taking place and there will be a lunch.

Further details will be announced shortly and for more information check the club's Facebook page.

Meanwhile the club's annual dinner has been booked for Thursday, May 3. David Flatman and Tom Shanklin, known throughout the rugby world as Flats and Shanks, will be the guests.

Flatman, formerly of Saracens, Bath and England, will be the principal guest speaker, while Shanklin, formerly of Saracens, London Welsh, Cardiff Blues and Wales, will be the evening's master of ceremonies.
