Norfolk's over-50 women's team have won a national title for the third consecutive year.

The team of Judy Horn, Sue Rich, Jane Ray, Lesley Cooper and captain Trish Peal were drawn to play Surrey, Hertfordshire and Warwickshire at home and Leicestershire and Kent away in Division 1B of the Seniors' Inter County Championships.

With all of those summer matches won, losing just three of 25 rubbers, another final beckoned. Yorkshire awaited at the David Lloyd venue in Dudley earlier this month – but couldn't stop the Norfolk ladies.

Peal played their number two singles first and won, with Horn playing the number one singles and also winning.

Rich and Ray then took to the court to play the doubles pair. Having lost the first set, they came back strongly and took the rubber in a championship tie-break, which put Norfolk in an unassailable 3-0 lead, seeing them awarded the match and the title with no further rubbers played.

'It's been a wonderful season with Judy and Trish being undefeated both in their singles and doubles matches, as have Sue and Jane when playing together in doubles,' captain Peal said.

'Thanks have to be given to Virgin Active/David Lloyd club in Norwich for their support and allowing the use of their facilities for training and matches. Also thanks to all the ladies we play with from Norfolk who have given us unfailing support. Finally thank you team members for always making yourselves available and being so committed. Well done and well played.

• Norfolk's over-40 women's team saw their season disrupted by cancellations and injuries.

Essex had to concede the opening game, leaving Jo Love, Katie Brooks, Anna Linton and Andrea McCombe disappointed, but Kent made it to Norfolk for the next game. Love and Linton were joined by Verena Rowan and captain Clare Crean in a 6-4 home defeat.

A trip to group winners Yorkshire resulted in a heavy 10-0 defeat but a 6-2 home win over a depleted Warwickshire team, before injuries meant sending a team down to Dorset in the final game wasn't possible, leaving Norfolk fourth in Division 2A.
