Darren Cann will officiate for the first time at this summer's World Cup during the Group C match between Ivory Coast and Columbia tomorrow (kick-off 5pm).
The 45-year-old, who lives in Framingham Earl, will assist referee Howard Webb at the Estadio Nacional in Brasilia along with Trevor Mullarkey.
It will be the English trio's fourth major tournament they have been part of with the highlight being officiating the World Cup final between Holland and Spain in South Africa four years ago. Cann, who has been following a specific fitness programme to cope with the heat in Brazil, will be hoping to repeat that feat four years on.
However, in an interview with the EDP last month, he revealed how he would only be too happy to miss out on another final should Roy Hodgson's England make it all the way to the Maracana on July 13.
It will be Cann's last chance to referee at a major international tournament as FIFA remove anyone over the age of 45 from their international list of referees. However Cann has no thoughts of retiring at the end of the World Cup and hopes to continue officiating in the Premier League next season.
