The Cadwell Park Sidecar Revival was held in glorious sunshine and hosted four races of the British Sidecar Championship which had more than their fair share of drama.
Doncaster's Simon Gilbert, with Jack Tritton from North Walsham, were in the thick of the action with the draperRacing sidecar, but with Cadwell's two long straights they had their work cut out with their Yamaha R1 motor losing out to the Kawasaki ZX10RR motors on speed.
Qualifying ninth on the grid, when the lights went green for the first race they made up places and going over Cadwell's Mountain for the first time were seventh, finally crossing the line in ninth but securing valuable championship points.
With a reverse grid for the top 10, they started the second race from the front row and as the lights went green they stormed into the lead. They were still leading over the line at the end of the lap but the red flags came out, bringing the day's proceedings to a halt.
Sunday morning and the race was started again, but it wasn't long before the red flags were out again. From the third start Gilbert and Tritton again took off towards the first corner with the pack chasing them, but again the Kawasakis were coming through the field, none quicker than Steve Kershaw and Stuart Clark, who came from 10th to first to continue their dominance of the weekend.
A final result of fourth for the draperRacing outfit brought another good tally of championships points, which they added to in race three with a seventh-placed finish.
Race four saw them on the second row and, despite making a good start, were soon down in 10th. Tritton indicated they were having problems, but they were hit by another sidecar, bringing out the red flag again. The result was called and, going back a lap, they were classified 10th, which meant they jumped from 14th to ninth in the championship.
Another Tritton was also on sidecar duties over the weekend – Jack's dad Darren was in the chair for Carl Parkinson in the GP Legends Sidecar parade, in the ex-Rolf Biland Rothmans 500cc Krauser outfit.
