Middleton Hall’s Poppy Beales and Truda Foster triumph in Young Cup final

The Middleton Hall pair got their hands on the silverware when they beat Jeni Brown and Sue Lang from Barnham Broom 3&2 in the final at Swaffham.

With Brown and Lang receiving 12 shots, Beales and Foster made the first move at the par three third, winning it with a par to go one up.

The Barnham Broom pair won the fourth to square the match and the next three holes were halved before Beales and Foster won the eighth and then sunk a long birdie putt on the ninth to go two up at the turn.

The Middleton Hall players continued their steady play, winning the 10th, 12th and 13th holes to be five up.

But Brown and Lang weren't finished and reduced the deficit by winning the 14th and 15th holes as their opponents found trouble and were forced to concede. They were still three down with three to play and Beales and Foster won the match 3&2 on the par three 16th when both pairs recorded good pars.

Beryl Nash refereed the match, as she has done in all but one final since the competition's inception.

Details for 2019 will be available in the New Year on NLCGA website. The Young Cup is open to all girls paired with a lady from the same club with competition CONGU handicaps.

Meanwhile, the Norfolk County Golf Union's Junior Am-Am was played at Middleton Hall, with eight teams enjoying the course as well as the weather.

The hosts posted a leading score of 96 points which stood until Bawburgh came in with 112 points, and then Royal Norwich with 104. The winning team comprised Stephen Colebridge, Emma Bambridge, James Bennett and Neil Bennett.

Dereham Golf Club's annual Mixed Open Greensomes Stableford was won by John and Sue Matthews from Nene Park and Spalding with 43 points from Alex and Pat Richardson from Hunstanton and Searles with 41 points, Roger and Dorothy March from Ryston Park were third with 40 points and fourth on countback were Michael and Mary Gamble from Bawburgh with 39 points.
