Norfolk's leading ladies warmed up - if that's the right phrase -for the two big competitions with a traditional fixture against the men of Hunstanton Golf Club.

The match, which was organised by Tracey Williamson and William Coker, proved a very challenging four ball better ball contest played off scratch.

There was little sign of sunny Hunny, with the fixture going ahead in extremely windy and chilly conditions.

Norfolk Ladies were beaten but staged a good fight and will all be better off for the experience.

Amelia Williamson and Jasmine Campbell halved against Ryan Pudney and Mark Shannon, Tiffany Mills and Megan Mann lost against Chris White and William Coker, Tracey Williamson and Vanessa Mann, the second team captain, lost against Peter Read and Simon Flint and Jo Herd and Imogen Leeder halved against Richard Oakes and Richard Jessop.

'George and his team as always welcomed us and it was pleasure to share memories of County match week played at Hunstanton last year,' said county captain Sammy Martin. 'A highlight was a meeting with Mark Foster, the former Olympian and Commonwealth swimming champion, who kindly posed for a photograph with the county team. What a bonus!'

The next test for the Norfolk players is the three-day County Championship which is taking place at nearby King's Lynn Golf Club this year and gets under way next Friday at 8am with two rounds of strokeplay.

The field of 32 will be reduced to 16, with the matchplay stages getting under way on the Saturday morning. The final will start on the Sunday at the earlier than usual time of 12.30pm, as a men's Anglian League match is also being staged at the course.

Royal Cromer youngster Amelia Williamson is back to defend the title she won on home soil in 2017 but the player she beat, Bawburgh's Amy Taylor, will be missing as she is studying in the United States.

The top players will then move on to County Week, which is being held at Woodbridge Golf Club in Suffolk from June 18-22.
