It was yet another big success with a record number of entrants from 17n clubs taking part.

There was a packed programme of events throughout the day

The top individual performance of the meeting came from Sophie McKinna.

The Great Yarmouth athlete smashed the county record with a fine shot put of 16.71m.

It is a great credit that an international athlete should want to take part in a county competition. This adds to her 17.30m throw at Loughborough recently, which places her at the top of the UK rankings.

Another county record went to City of Norwich AC's Sasha Birrell, who pole vaulted a fine 3.20m in what was a return to competition. Eleanor Brown was another to set a record when she triple jumped 10.74m to add to her wins in the long jump and 6m hurdles in the under 17 age group.

There were fine sprint races too. Serena Grace took the under-17 60 metres in 8.2 seconds with Jamie Greenacre winning the under-17 boys' race in 7.5 seconds. The fastest 60 metres of the day came from Harry Taylor in winning the under-20 final in 7.3 seconds.

There were other good performances in the shot as well from West Norfolk athletes. Alfie Williams won the under-17 event with 11.20m and Lucy Koenigsberger took the under-17 women's event with a throw of 10.59m.

There was a very close under-15 girls' long jump, with Louisa Johnson just winning with a distance of 4.49m. Another promising long jump performance from a Great Yarmouth athlete came in the under-13 age group when Lauren Ward jumped 4.46m. Jules Walker claimed the first indoor title for the Harling club when he won the under-17 boys' long jump. In the senior age group, Louis Ely high jumped 1.85m.

Such was the popularity of the meeting that athletes travelled from as far as Sheffield to take part. The Norfolk championships organised by the West Norfolk club and Athletics Norfolk were incorporated into the Keith Ward meeting.

Ideally there should be another indoor athletics facility in Norfolk, at least, to add to the Barn at King's Lynn.
