The under-14 Norfolk girls' team travelled to Hassocks in Sussex for the 2018 LTA U14 County Cup.

The first day for the team, comprising of Mia Bartram, Hannah Mann, Daisy Waddison, Hannah Wilson Kemsley and Elissa Wood, opened up with a match against a strong Dorset team.

All the players were playing against higher ranked players in the singles matches. Hannah Mann, making her debut in the County Cup, fought well but lost out in her first singles match.

Next up were Hannah Wilson Kemsley and Elissa Wood, again playing higher ranked players. Hannah managed to dig deep after losing the first set and turned the match around winning her match in three sets. Elissa was digging deep and showed brilliant defensive qualities. She gained the advantage and was serving for the first set when the Dorset number two withdrew with an injured ankle.

Mia Bartram then went on and lost to a very strong Dorset number one making the overall score 2-2 going into the doubles. Both matches went on but Dorset proved too strong winning both matches resulting in a 4-2 win to Dorset.

Next up was Bedfordshire. All four girls went on determined after the defeat to Dorset. Mia, Elissa, Hannah and Hannah all played very solid tennis and proved too strong for Bedfordshire winning all of the singles. Daisy Waddison then came in for the doubles making her County Cup debut. The final score was 5-1 to Norfolk.

The final day saw Norfolk play South Wales for third or fourth place. Norfolk made a fast start with Hannah Mann winning her singles putting Norfolk into a 1-0 lead. Mia and Hannah Wilson Kemsley then put up a battle but both ended up losing in two close sets.

Elissa then really fought hard and with back pain hampering her serve finally lost to the South Wales number two in three sets. South Wales wrapped up the tie with a win in the first doubles. This meant Norfolk finished in fourth.

All the girls played and gave it their all throughout the whole weekend. They were a credit to them themselves and the county.
