Dan Blackburn of VC Norwich and Luke Hirst of Ashtons Legal CC won the Diss Cycling Club's time trial for teams of two, as well as being the only riders inside the hour for the 25 miles.

Nearest rivals on a grey damp morning on the Bressingham-Thetford road were Lloyd Chapman and Trevor Caley of Suffolk coast club Plomesgate CC.

Caley dealt cheerfully with the slightly daunting task of matching the pace of former pro Chapman, who blasted off rather too enthusiastically up the drag away from the start. Blackburn/Hirst finished in 58:25 compared to Chapman/Caley's 1:00:29.

In the special event for classic bikes – defined for the Diss event as pre-1980 specification – the home club provided the winner. Jason Corner (1:5:40) sported large-flange hubs – once so common – on his big road/track frame. Next came two competitors on Derby-built Mercian frames – Mark Ready (Diss CC,1:12:57) on a geared road frame and Nick Paravanni (CC Breckland, 1:16:55) on a fixed track-iron.

In the category for bikes with restricted gears, Richard Hutt (Harp RC) was fastest in 1:04:37, ahead of Boyd Nicholas, riding a frame he built himself on a frame-building holiday course in 1:09:30. Top woman was Lucy Mitchell (1:15:17).

Stepping up from second last year in the tricycle 25 was Lincoln Wheeler Lez Young (1:15:30)

VeloVelocity's West Norfolk-based members dominated the King's Lynn CC 25 on the Fincham-Mundford course, which proved to be hard out and a 'flyer' back.

Matthew Senter won in 53:42 from Ben Stancombe (53:53) while David Procter (57:38) was only beaten by King's Lynn CC's Steven Neil (57:23), otherwise there would have been a VeloVelocity one-two-three.

Riders in the Fast Test Road Race near Stowmarket faced 80 miles in rain and grime. With 20 miles to go three riders made a break for it.

Edmund Bradbury (JLT), George Wood (Richardsons-Trek) and Arlen Vartazamon (HJL) stayed away and finished in that order – Bradbury stringing them out on the final climb to the finish at Willisham Tye.

Fast rides reported from the Lea Valley CC 25 at Newmarket include 48:57 for Rendlesham rider Stuart Fairweather.
