Norfolk Cricket League: Eight wickets and 92 with the bat for North Elmham teenager

Sixteen-year-old Olly Hall was the star of the show with both bat and ball for North Elmham A in Division Seven of the Norfolk League.

The youngster scored 15 boundaries on his way to a total of 92 to help Elmham to 135-7 at home against North Walsham & Bacton.

Hall then took eight wickets in a superb bowling performance to see the visitors all out for 123.

With rain in the air and expected to arrive at some point, both captains elected to reduce the game to 40 overs to try and get a result, with Elmham losing the toss and being put into bat.

The home side slipped to 42-3 off 17 overs but with Hall still at the crease. His 50 came up in the 28th over with a boundary six followed by a four.

His younger brother Dan then joined him and the pair then built a 46-run partnership to see the innings to a close. Dan had played some well executed and confident shots to remain unbeaten on five, while his brother attacked everything short, driving the straighter balls and soon had moved into the 90s.

With three balls remaining Olly was on 92 but he couldn't get the ball away and was bowled off the last ball of the innings trying to wring out as many runs as possible with Elmham on a total of 135-7.

Olly then continued his star turn with the ball and, with the first ball of the innings, clean bowled Larter and, with the third, Hornabold was walking back to the pavilion after having his stumps knocked back.

Hall's second over brought him his third wicket, bowling McGuire for three, and in his third he caught and bowled the dangerous looking Bodymore for nine.

At that stage Bacton were 12-4 and were doing a rain dance in the hope of halting proceedings. Bean and Stringer stopped the rot for a while but Stringer had to retire hurt after catching one in the ribs off Websdale.

Jeffries came and went, catching an edge off J Segolo's bowling and was caught well by Dan Hall.

Tuttle then joined Bean and this pair moved the score onto 74-5 until Tuttle was yet another victim of Olly Hall as he returned to the attack.

Wicks provided support to Bean next as they added another 23, and they were looking like they could get to finish line as there were still 12 overs remaining.

Then Hall had his biggest over of the day. He had the comfortable looking Bean (41) caught with a juggling catch by skipper A Garrod and then Balding (0) caught by Bridges behind the stumps with his next delivery.

Three balls later he skittled Howes' stumps apart. Stringer returned to the crease in a bit of discomfort but he and Wicks looked to see their team over the line.

With their score on 123 Wicks went for a big shot off A Graver and caught a top edge sending the ball skywards.

L Cornwall was under it but with a helmet on lost sight as it fell and the ball got spilled, but Stringer (24) had not left his crease and Wicks (15) could not return in time and was run out bringing the away team's chase to an end.
