In the first of their two warm-up games before their ECB league campaign, Norfolk Farm Barns Holidays U14s lost to Nottinghamshire at a sun-drenched North Runcton.

Norfolk won the toss and elected to bat with Freddie Fairey (15) and Lohit Kannan (20) building a patient 35-run opening partnership. Norfolk then lost wickets at regular intervals with Joe Wicks (22 not out) and Jonty Black (18) helping the home side post 139 all out.

Notts’ reply got off to a slow and steady start, putting on 41 for the first wicket (Davis 15, Stentiford 32) before debutant Luke Bettridge bowled Davis. Notts progressed to 85 before Black struck twice in three overs to give the home side a glimmer of hope with the score on 93-3 thanks to two good catches from Freddie Fairey and Ben Wilcox. However, the batsmen then accelerated as the fielders began to wilt to complete a convincing seven-wicket win.

Black (18 runs and 4-1-10-2) was Norfolk’s man of the match.
