Nick Yelloly finished fifth in the World Series Renault 3.5 Championship – the highest placed racer among the Norfolk-based squads.

Yelloly is the lead driver for the Carleton Rode-based Comtec Racing and the team were quick to get a handle on the new car for the 2012 season, which allowed Yelloly to take victory in the opening race at Motorland in Spain, the team's first victory since 2008.

Sadly race two proved to be the opposite with Yelloly failing to score and that was repeated, for various reasons, eight more times during the season.

Yelloly only managed to score in half the races but still only finished 67 points shy of the title winning Robin Frijns, demonstrating how important it is to rack up points, however minor, on a continued basis.

Yelloly was a podium visitor for the second time in race two at Spa-Francorchamps and took his second victory in the second race of the weekend at the Nurburgring.

Paul Ricard was the final time Comtec Racing visited the podium and with fourth place in race two was the biggest haul of weekend points for Yelloly with 30 in total.

This was just sufficient to hold off Marco Sorensen in the point table as both finished on equal points but Yelloly, with one more victory, claimed the position on count back.

'A tough final weekend,' said Yelloly. 'We ended P5 in the championship, not a bad first year but a lot to improve on and a massive thanks to the team for everything.'

Italian Vittorio Ghirelli drove the second Comtec entry and showed flashes of speed in the early races, beating his more experienced team-mate on occasions but he only scored points in the Silverstone event with an eighth place in race one and then 10th in the second race.

P1 Motorsport is based in Besthorpe and their two drivers, Daniil Move and Walter Grubmuller, have a wealth of experience racing at this level, a stepping stone to Formula One.

In the opening event in Spain, Move managed sixth place in race two while Grubmuller opened his account with two points at Monaco before following it up with three top 10 results after leaving the Principality.

Grubmuller's only podium finish came in Moscow with a strong second place in race two followed by three minor places in the top 10 in the remaining eight races to leave him in 14th place in the final points table.

Move also made the podium for the team, this time at Paul Ricard, his only points finish in nine events which left him in 17th place at the conclusion of the season.
