Sam Sexton is expected to return to the ring in the New Year as his management team weigh up the next step for Norwich’s recently-crowned British heavyweight champion.

The 33-year-old is in demand following his title success against Gary Cornish last month, but trainer Graham Everett insists a decision will not be rushed.

Sexton is back at the ProBox Gym in Norwich where he helped cruiserweight Iain Martell and fellow heavyweight Fabio Wardley prepare for Saturday show in the city.

“A the moment Sam won’t be boxing this side of Christmas,” said Everett. “We were tentatively offered the Dave Allen fight, but the deal didn’t suit us. I have been having quite a lot of chats with (promoter) Mervyn Turner and major promoters, so it is something we have to do right, it has to be right for Sam. It is all about timescale; Sam should be back in the ring in February. Where and who against we don’t know. But I can assure you it is being worked on and worked on strenuously, but work is going on.”
