King’s Lynn Town - despite the uncertainty in the world of football – have made a new signing.
The Linnets have swooped for Buxton defender Alex Brown,
The 21-year-old has agreed a two-year deal at The Walks and, should the current National League North season - under suspension because of the coronavirus – recommence would be eligible to play.
Brown came through the junior ranks at Sheffield United. He had a short spell at Northern Counties East League side Hallam before moving to Sheffield FC.
The youngster played for the England C team in Dublin during the summer of 2018 and joined Buxton at the start of last season after impressing in pre-season, making 47.
Another England C appearance followed last June in Estonia.
“Alex is a player that the manager has been looking at for a long time and when it became clear that there could be an opportunity to agree something now and sign Alex for two seasons it seemed a prudent step to take,” said owner Stephen Cleeve.
“There were lots of National League clubs looking at Alex and sometimes even though it is not ideal timing from anyone’s perspective at the moment, we think with the benefit of hindsight this will be seen as the right course of action in months to come.”
Brown added: “I have been watching events from afar for a few months now and it looks to be exciting times for the football club.
“I know Ross Barrows and he tells me that it’s a great group of players to be amongst.
“I played for Buxton in the two FA Trophy ties against King’s Lynn a couple of seasons back and was very impressed with the set-up and stadium.
“I began as a winger but converted to full-back at 15 years of age so I like to get forward as well as defend like most modern full-backs do nowadays.”
On his experiences with the England C set-up he added: “It was a memorable experience playing in surroundings that you don’t see every day and being so far away from home. I cannot wait to get started at the football club and to test myself at an excellent level of football.”
The Linnets immediate footballing future is up in the air: clubs below the National League level have had their seasons scrapped and wiped from the record books, but the National League have yet to agree their next move.
