Mud on bikes is what sticks in the memory about the Codham Park round of the Mud, Sweat and Gears MTB series.

It stuck to machinery until bikes at the finish weighed twice what they did at the start. It gummed up transmissions so that gear mechs were wrenched off rear dropouts.

Sweat was expended as ever, but replacing it from muddy bottles was an unattractive prospect – Kim Marsh (TROG) felt his back-pack water system was a life-saver.

Anna Buick (Salsa), who was second in the Elite/Expert Females, made good use of her bottle to lubricate the gears. Category winner was international rider Erica Zaveta (Moda Bike Magic), currently living in Wymondham with the Buicks. Other Norfolk women in podium places were Anita Buxton (Thetford MTB), second in the Veteran Females, and Norwich rider Alex Nichol (Iceni Velo), second in Sport Female.

Anna Buick's dad Phil was dominant in the Grand Vets (the over 50s) – the only competitor to complete five laps.

Team CCN's Shaun Aldous, from Ditchingham, was second in the Master Men (age 30-39) and Norwich rider Patrick Stokes was fourth in the Vets (40-49). In the supporting Sport class, Tom O'Neil (Pedal Revolution) was third and Tom Stanford (Iceni) eighth. Full results are at www.timelaps.co.uk.

• Safety considerations forced the postponement of the big time trial of the weekend, the East District Championship 10. Rain and spray on the Wymondham bypass means that a new date will have to be found.

• There was fine weather for the fifth round of the Lotus Cars Cycle Race Series where a lead group of seven strong men soon separated itself from the pack on the sweeping ultra-smooth Lotus Cars test-track.

At the finish it was a Strada Sport one-two, with Mike Auger pipping Liam Gentry, ahead of Chris Guy and Tom Fitzpatrick (both Iceni Velo) then Phil Hetzel (Ipswich BC), Mark Westrup (Strada) and Pete Hargreaves (Strada). In the races for young riders Dan Swindells (Great Yarmouth CC) Jamie Brown (City of Norwich Tri) and Emilie Haslam were winners.

• In a wet Abberton Road Race near Colchester, Pete Hargreaves (Strada) was top Norfolk finisher in 19th.

• While Mike Hall was making a victorious Jubilee return to Greenwich as winner of the Round-the World bike race, Diss CC's Richard Dunnett lies second in a race from which many have now retired. On June 1, Dunnett had 11,190 miles under his belt and was in Santhavellore, India, commenting that he had 'slacked' the previous day and 'only' done 110 miles.
