Although Stock Car and Banger drivers are a hardy bunch and the sport generally continues whatever the weather, 10 hours of rain proved to be too much even for them and forced the postponement of the Wacky Races which was scheduled to take place at the Adrian Flux Arena at King’s Lynn on Bank Holiday Monday.
This event usually has one of the biggest crowds of the season at King’s Lynn, but the good news is that the event is being restaged on Friday (7pm).
It will feature the annual crazy races for the 1500cc Bangers together with the annual appearance of the 4x4 SUV Bangers with the Siamese Bangers in action together with the BriSCA F2s, which will replace the Reliant Robins.
Despite the change of date there is a big turnout of cars expected with the 1500cc Bangers fully booked with 48 cars and very strong numbers of 4x4 SUV Bangers and F2 Stock Cars, whilst the Siamese Bangers will also be making an appearance albeit with a reduced entry.
Lynn’s Kieran Bowman will be busy as he is in action in both the 1500cc Bangers and the Siamese Bangers. Other local drivers in the 1500cc Bangers include former national champion Tony Pallet (Thetford), Ryan Preston, Jamie Blything and Chris Medler (all Norwich) and the Lynn husband and wife pairing of Chris and Holly Nash.
There was racing on Saturday with the Unlimited Bangers, 2L Stock Cars and 1300 Stock Cars.
Ben Collins took a fantastic win in the Unlimited Banger White & Yellows Race. Ben was involved in a race long battle with Ben Green (Terrington) and survived a scare to take the chequered flag.
Veteran racer Shayn Winsor (Wymondham) had a weekend to remember when he won the main race of the night – the Unlimited Banger East Anglian Final. In a career spanning three decades where Winsor has scooped most of the big titles on offer in the Unlimited Bangers this was surprisingly the first time he has won the East Anglian.
Ben Englestone had another good day in the 1300 Stock Cars when he won the White & Yellow Championship.
