Adam Hatfield journeyed to Silverstone determined to secure the overall GT Cup Championship crown at the weekend but had a nervous wait before being declared champion as the final race was cancelled due to Storm Callum lashing the circuit with rain.

The Catworth racer has been racing a Whitebridge Racing prepared Aston Martin GT4 this season with co-driver Chris Murphy with the pair taking three wins at the previous round to secure the GTH category title.

The pairing went to Silverstone with a 19-point advantage over rivals James Reveler/Gary Smith with Hatfield behind the wheel of the Aston Martin for the two sprint races on Saturday.

In the opening contest Hatfield started from the GTH pole and drove a steady race to ensure he picked up the class victory which matched Reveler/Smith who also won their class to maintain the gap between the two crews.

'It was a nice race and keeps things calm,' said Hatfield. 'We will keep racking up the points, not getting involved in battles that we don't need to be involved in.'

Race two followed a similar format with Hatfield leading his category from the starting lights to secure maximum points, including fastest lap in class, which extended his lead to 20 points with just the longer two driver race on Sunday to follow.

'It looks like we have had a night race,' declared Hatfield after race two had finished in fading light at the Northampton circuit. 'We have had pole, two fastest laps and two wins. That's all we can ask for and we have put one hand on the trophy which is mega for the team who have worked hard all year.'

Sadly for the pairing they were unable to race, due to flooding of the circuit, and were declared the series championship when the meeting was abandoned.

Brockdish racer Bonamy Grimes was also the victim of Storm Cullum and was unable to continue to challenge for a victory in the LMP3 UK Cup which the local racer has been contesting along with co-driver Johnny Mowlem. In Saturday's race at Silverstone the pair finished the race in second place just over two seconds away from victory but a penalty for track limits volition, of five seconds, dropped the pairing down to fourth place and just off the podium.
